Building links is a time consuming process and doing it right isn’t as easy as everyone thinks. Given that 2012 has seen what SEOs consider to be major algorithm updates from Google, the trend is make sure you are getting links from high authority sites. Sure having a link without the nofollow attribute is still preferable, you still can’t turn good sources of high authority links. I have listed a few that I think are currently favorable for your website.
Alexa Site Info – Alexa has now turned their website profile into a paid offering and are allowing links to your website. You need to search for your website in their index and it should pull up your Site Info page. You’ll want to claim your page, and if you want 2 regular links it’ll cost you.
Alexa Domain Authority: 97
Pros – Strong Domain Authority, SEO tools available
Cons – Cost, infrequent crawling of website profile page
Aboutus.Org Website Page – About Us is essentially a website directory. They curate information and some stats for your website. Type your web address in the upper right hand search bar that is populated with ‘example.com’. The search should pull up your website and from there you can full out a profile for your website and business. Once you make a profile (jazz it up a little), you can email AboutUs to receive profile links sans the nofollow attribute. I highly recommend that you spruce up your profile as they suggest 😉
Aboutus.org Domain Authority: 87
Pros – Regular Links with Custom Anchor text, Site Profile page can increase PageRank when links are pointed to it
Cons – Time investment to create profile (no more than 1 hour), profile needs review for regular links
Connotea.org – In SEO circles this is considered a social bookmarking site. In other circles it is deemed a reference site with citations and links to reference materials and is used by folks in higher learning. My guess is the spammy SEO folks made things difficult for this site as they do not offer any regular links (just like Folkd). I still use this site as it is a great source of trust for Google and Bing. Use it but don’t abuse it!
Connotea.org Domain Authority: 91
Pros – High trust factor due to use in higher education
Cons – Nofollow links only
These are just a handful of sources for low-hanging fruit link building opportunities. Remember that quality links are not built overnight but you can speed up the process a little bit if you’re smart and just a little bit crafty. I will be updating this list with more recommendations. Feel free to leave any recommendations in the comments.
